Group therapy can be a powerful way to enact change in your life. As humans, we are born into relationships and we live in the context of relationships for our entire lives. When we struggle with relationships, it can be intensely painful.

Group can help you understand yourself and your relationships in a different way. It is similar to individual therapy in that you can bring topics into the group to discuss, and it also offers you an opportunity to learn from others, receive validation, and feel truly connected in the moment.

CURRENT OFFERINGS

Virtual Process Group

  • Tuesdays from 5-6 pm CST $60/session (waitlist)

  • Thursdays from 5-6 pm CST $60/session

These weekly process groups are for adult clients who are considering, or who have had, any kind of weight loss surgery. Those who are currently committed to group are interested in talking about things like:

  • how to have a neutral or nourishing relationship with a body of any size

  • responding to comments that are pro-weight loss or shaming of fat bodies

  • managing confusing messages from providers who are pro- and anti- weight loss

  • chronic health issues and/or medical complications related to surgery

  • weight loss, fertility, and family planning

I ask potential members to attend at least 2 individual sessions with me prior to joining the group and a 3-month commitment for those who choose to start.

I am happy to discuss sliding scale rates with clients for whom finances are a potential barrier to getting appropriate treatment.

While my group stance is not to judge anyone for their decision about surgery, I am also firmly grounded in the following beliefs about bodies:

  • We are so, so much more than our body size and shape

  • Fat bodies do not need to be changed to be “good” or “healthy”

  • It is not anyone’s moral imperative to practice health-seeking behaviors

  • Fat bodies are vastly under-represented in disordered eating treatment and they need and deserve appropriate treatment
